On this week’s Office Baggage, we’re talking about the rise of female CEOs. Is there a pipeline? Can women rise to the top? Or are we kidding ourselves. And a special bonus, the first 10 minutes, these two married ladies are talking about online dating. Do you want to date “Kirby”? Email us!
Rae and Marcy admit that sometimes….they get winded while eating. If that’s not a wake up call, we don’t know what is! Both Rae and Marcy are re-vamping their health and fitness regimes this summer and “getting it together” in the way of their personal health journeys. The truth is, when you’re taking care of your body, you’re probably taking better care of your work and your career. Join us on this journey for a quick, mini episode today.
Rae and Marcy took a small hiatus during summer break, but this week, we’re official back. Imagine us singing, “We’re back….back in the podcast mood.” Today, we catch up on what happened this summer, what we’re doing during a break from school, and how we’re preparing for the busiest years of our lives. And in a much overdue version of “The Week in Mansplaining,” we’re taking to task the way Senators Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowsi were treated surrounding John McCain’s healthcare vote. Is this just another example of men stealing women’s ideas?
Back by popular demand is our “Panel of Men.” Today, Office Baggage brings to the podcast three *new* men with three new perspectives. An Army veteran turned banker, a sales expert and a tech leader, these men have truly varied backgrounds and experiences. In addition, they’re all under 40 and we began today’s discussion with an understanding of what issues might be facing young professional men. The discussion moves from there to managing women, leading diverse teams, developing empathy skills and even “bromances.”
As busy professionals, our time with our children is often constrained. We want to spend the time that we have enjoying our relationship with our children but when a child acts out, we end up using our energy to address behavior issues instead.
Many working parents struggle with the conflict of trying to be an outstanding employee and parent at the same time often finding it difficult to focus on work when there are behavior challenges at home. In fact, “child behavior” is one of the Top 3 reasons that employees request support from Employee Assistance Programs.
Today on Office Baggage we are joined by James (Jim) Kling, MA. Jim is a behavioral consultant, national speaker and founder of the ‘Fair but Firm’ model of behavior intervention. Jim provides us with some perspective, strategies and practical tactics to help us get back to the joyous part of parenting.
This week, we’re revisiting a topic we discussed way back in Episode 1 – Uber. A lot has happened since the controversy around sexual harassment came to light a few months ago. We’re talking about Uber’s Board of Directors, the Holder report, and the consequences of what might be ahead for the company. Then, we switch gears to discuss the frustrating and confusing result of the Bill Cosby trial. Whether sexual harassment at work or rape by an acquaintance, our discussion pinpoints a systematic concern about women, safety and more. Read More
If you are experiencing frustration at work or feeling disconnected from what you’re doing there are two common issues you may be experiencing – burnout and topout. In today’s podcast, we tackle both topics. What is burnout? What is topout? How do you recognize the symptoms and begin to deal with them? We ask the hard question – is it possible to recover from these two things in your current job? Or do you have to leave? Also, we start today by discussing the feedback we received from our “White Privilege” episode.

Today on Office Baggage, we’re addressing the difficult and sometimes controversial topic of office dress codes. Are certain things “off limits” in the workplace? Or is a dress code sexist? Rae and Marcy share their own “do’s” and “don’ts” of office attire and how they navigate judgement, slut shaming, and other frustrating topics related to women’s attire in the office. What image are you working to portray and is your clothing helping or hurting your brand? And as a bonus, it’s Marcy’s birthday and we kick off with a fun discussion on age and setting goals at different ages.

Many of our prior episodes have explicitly or implicitly addressed male privilege. Today, we’re taking this taboo discussion another step by addressing the topic of white privilege. Privilege is a difficult and often controversial topic in today’s atmosphere, but what we know for sure is this: real leaders don’t shy away from their baggage, and great leaders know they always have more to learn. We are joined by two special guests to share their personal perspective on this topic. Their stories may shock you, but it’s imperative we get comfortable with the uncomfortable. Join us.
